Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to a few questions you may have as you plan to volunteer with us at Global Maritime Ministries. If your questions are not answered below, please contact us or more information.

Who can volunteer at your center?

Individuals and groups of all kinds have found ways to serve with us.

A variety of people have served at our ministry throughout the years. Children, students, families, senior adults, women and men all enjoy volunteering in different ways at Global Maritime Ministries.

Is this a family-friendly place to serve?

Yes, families are welcome to come and serve together.

Our ministry is a great place for a family-friendly mission trip. Many seafarers enjoy interacting with children because they miss seeing their own children and families. However, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian that will be responsible for them the entire time they are here.

How many volunteers can we bring on a team?

Small teams are best!

We can accommodate teams of up to 12 people, which is appropriate for our ministry setting.

What accommodations do you have for volunteers?

The second floor of our New Orleans center and the bunkhouse at our River Parishes center is dedicated to housing volunteers.

We have bunk beds, restrooms with showers, a sitting area, washing machine, and a kitchenette. A full kitchen is available for meals. You will need to bring your own pillows, linens, towels, soap, toiletries, etc.

How much do you charge for lodging?

We do not charge for lodging, but request a donation.

There is no charge for volunteers to stay overnight at our centers, but we do ask for a donation. The amount is up to you and varies based on many factors such as number of people, length of stay, etc.

What are the options for meals?

Cooking meals or dining out will be your decision.

You may prepare meals at the center if you wish. We have a full-size kitchen which is available for you to use. Kitchen includes a double oven, stove with four burners, microwave, refrigerator, stand mixer, toaster, ice maker, freezer, etc. We have pots, pans, and utensils. There are 3 grocery stores in our immediate area (Walmart, Rouse’s & Winn Dixie). Of course, there are many great New Orleans restaurants to try as well.
