OUR MISSION

Global Maritime Ministries exists to provide holistic Christian ministry by meeting the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of seafarers and maritime workers.

The World at Our Doorstep

A Dutch seaman once asked, “With the world at your doorstep, what are you going to do about it?” Our answer is Global Maritime Ministries! We have the privilege of coming in contact with seafarers from around the world. Many of these people are from countries where missionaries are not allowed to go. We have the opportunity to share with them the love of Christ and to give them God’s word in their heart language. As they hear the Gospel message, they are able to take it back to their families and friends. These people may never be reached by missionaries.

Far From Home

Thousands of ships enter the Mississippi River each year with crews of international seafarers who are far from home. These ships include cargo ships, container ships, and passenger cruise ships. Many of the ships visiting our port stay for only a short time (12-24 hours). Since time is limited, it is difficult for the crew to make phone calls, send and receive mail, or take care of any personal needs. With two ministry centers, we can easily provide free transportation to and from ships at the Port of New Orleans and the Port of South Louisiana.

A Unique Opportunity

God has given us a unique opportunity to reach the world at our doorstep with the Gospel. As we meet needs and build relationships, many times we are able to share the Gospel message. We have Bibles and Scriptures in over 75 languages to be able to give each seafarer a copy God’s Word in his or her own language. We also try to take every opportunity to reach out to port-related personnel. Our goal is to have Bible studies and prayer times during lunch or coffee breaks. Our centers also give them a place to come for support, encouragement, and fun Christian fellowship. Our desire is to reach these people with the Gospel and then encourage them to become active in the surrounding local churches.
